Why church? – Part 7 What about tithe?

by | Jul 2, 2020

Psalms 78:41

There is so much to say.

Let us begin with one verse and then read further.

Mark 2:22 English Standard Version (ESV)

22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins—and the wine is destroyed, and so are the skins. But new wine is for fresh wineskins.”

Keep this verse in your mind.

What about the tithe?

Most Pastors would teach from Malachi 3.

Well and good. Are we in the old covenant or the new covenant?

Ask them. They will say 2 things.

1. They will point to this verse.

Matthew 23:23 English Standard Version (ESV)

23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.

Same is recorded in Luke 11:42.

So the pastors will say, look Jesus said, you ought to have done, without neglecting the other. So Jesus is saying to continue to tithe.

Yes, they are right.

Jesus did say something else too, shall we do that also?

Luke 5:14 English Standard Version (ESV)

14 And he charged him to tell no one, but “go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”

Jesus asked the person healed to go to levite priest and give offering, that is animal sacrifice as commanded by Moses in Deuteronomy.

Shall we do that too? Offer sacrifice? Let us look for Livite priests. 🙂

Understand this my children. Jesus was talking to Pharisees about tithing and He was talking in terms of old testament.

Understand, when Jesus was, He was in the old testament. Only with Him dying and only after He rose again, we have the New testament. Remember in John 20:22 after His resurrection, He breathes into His disciples. That is when they had new life, born-again.

When pastors teach use Mathew 23:23 or Luke 11:42. Ask them a simple question. Shall we do Luke 5:14 also?

Either do all that is written or stop taking what is advantageous.

Children, read your Bible.

2. The second point that pastors will point to, is this.

They will say, yes, we ought not to mix the old covenant, we can not pour the new wine in old wine skin.

But tithing was even before the old covenant.

Yes they are right again. Wait for it. Let us go Genesis Abraham and Isaac did tithe.

Genesis 14:18-20 English Standard Version (ESV)

18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.) 19 And he blessed him and said,

“Blessed be Abram by God Most High,
Possessor[a] of heaven and earth;
20 and blessed be God Most High,
who has delivered your enemies into your hand!”

And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

Abraham who lived 430 years before Moses gave commandment. And he did tithe.

So the tithing was even before the old testament. That is the agruement pastors use to justify.

Very well then, let us turn to Genesis 17

Genesis 17:9-11 English Standard Version (ESV)

9 And God said to Abraham, “As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations. 10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you.

Abraham who lived before the Mosaic law circumcised. God told him to.

Shall we all go and get circumcised too?

Don’t even go to that thought. The whole book of Galatians deals with this subject.

You see, if you use one logic, the same logic should apply everywhere. If you use logic for tithing, you should use the same logic for circumcision.

But you can not, because Bible is clear and sound.

So then what about tithing?

Matthew 5:27-28 English Standard Version (ESV)

27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

You see a pattern here. Whatever was in old testament, the New testament puts it in a whole new level.

In old testament say you shall not commit adultery, new testament say, you shall not even see a woman lustful. That is a whole new level.

The same way, old testament talks about tithing which is 10%. But the New testament talks about 100%.

God doesn’t need/want your 10%.
He want you.

You. 100%

You were bought at a price. At the cost of HIS only begotten SON. Your life is not yours anymore and never was. You are purchased.

Mark 12:17

to God the things that are God’s.”

You belong to God. 100%

No 10% but 100%

Do not be fooled by pastors. They won’t teach you this. How then can they run the sunday show without your money? They will not teach you this. Do not accept what I say. I do not learn from me either. I am not your teacher. HE is. HE alone. All I do is point you in the direction.

Children, I beg you, ask and you shall receive. Ask questions in Bible. To ask questions, you need to know the Bible.

Read it. Please read the love letter written to you, about you. Ask questions, Holy Spirit will teach you, comfort you.

Be blessed my children. I love you. You are HIS children. Know HIM, Jesus Christ.

Amen
