What is Knowledge?
Genesis 2:17 KJV
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Now the question is why does God say that?
The Hebrew word knowledge in this verse is
Original: דּעת
Transliteration: da‛ath meaning
knowledge, perception, skill
discernment,
Is not knowledge, discernment a good thing?
Is not the Bible full of knowledge? Does not in Church a great deal of preaching is done on knowledge and on the discernment of right and wrong?
If all that is so? Why does GOD say of the tree of the knowledge good and evil you shall not eat, the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.
Why does HE say that?
Is GOD against knowledge?
Here is another question. God created Adam and Eve. And in Chapter 3 they both fall and eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Now before the fall, were Adam and Eve without knowledge?
Did God create Adam without knowledge?
No, Adam was created with knowledge. He named the animals and talked to GOD in chapter 2. Adam had knowledge. He had different knowledge. Now that he ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. He fell. He and his wife hid from the presence of GOD.
What was the knowledge that Adam had before the fall?
Think with me. What was Adam’s knowledge before the fall?
What did he know? What did he know?
Oh, Adam knew GOD. He didn’t know the good and evil, but he knew GOD and that was enough for him to have life.
Given the choice of knowledge of good and evil or knowing HIM. My choice is knowing HIM. Remember I told you when I came to Germany in 2009. I prayed for the wisdom of Solomon. I prayed what Solomon asked GOD in 1 King 3:7 and took the GOD’s promise 3:12-13.
Now looking back do I seek the wisdom or seek to know HIM the source of all encompassing wisdom. I choose to know HIM. For in HIM is the beginning of wisdom. HE is the beginning and the end.
What about the knowledge? The knowledge of good and evil, why is that bad?
Watch closely, what is the knowledge of? Good and evil. So when you seek it you are seeking the knowledge of evil too. And there is the problem.
So should I not seek knowledge?
I would have you well versed and wise as to what is good and innocent and guileless as to what is evil.
Romans 16:19
The word innocent used in Greek can be translated to fool.
So be simple, fool concerning evil.
You might ask, “Oh there is so much happening in the world. If I know not, how can I be discerning? ” You are thinking like the old man Adam.
Look at the verse. To be discerning you need to be wise concerning only the good. The Good.
The Good? What is good? “To know the good, is to the know the bad. Only then can you seperate the good.” That is eastern human philosophy. Eastern bullshit.
The good stands on it’s own.
So what is good then?
Want to know what is good? The Good?
Turn with me to Luke 18:19 & Mark 10:18
Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.
Be wise concerning GOD and GOD alone is good. And be a fool to everything else. Just like the Adam before the fall.
Is it even possible? Why knowing HIM is everything? What did Adam do after he ate from tree of knowledge of good and evil? He hid from ran from the presence of GOD. What is the world doing? Seeking knowledge and has hid from HIS presence.
Jesus came so we walk back into HIS presence. We are going to spend eternity knowing HIM.
Why did Jesus come?
So that we might have eternal life.
What is eternal life?
John 17:3 the most beautiful passage.
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
This would be marked red in your Bible. Because this verse Jesus spoke directly.
This is eternal life that you know GOD and Jesus Christ HIS begotten son. If this heaven, if this is my salvation. Knowing HIM is heaven and knowing HIM here in earth, I bring heaven here and now. I live in eternal life knowing HIM now and here. And HE is here now and HE will never leave me or forsake me.
