What is Confidence?
I used to lack confidence. People have told me that. I still do.
Peter seems to be a confident person. Jesus told Peter that Peter would deny Jesus three times before cock crows.
Look at Peter’s confidence. Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.”
Now today after 2000 years, you and I know what happened next. That Peter did fall, his confidence could not save him.
How does confidence operate? It is by being very sure.
Proverbs 26:12 English Standard Version (ESV)
12 Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.
I want to bring the old saying of avviyar..
“கற்றது கைமண் அளவு, கல்லாதது உலகளவு”
Meaning, what she knows is just like the sand in her palms. What she doesn’t know is as big as the earth.
The wise know that there is always more to know. They peruse to know, constantly learning. It is foolish to say, “I figured out”
Coming back to confidence, how can I speak like as if I am sure about what has happened, what is going to happen? Is it not foolish?
What is confidence then? It is the assurance that I know? No, rather it is the assurance that HE Jesus knows and my life is in HIM.
Even though Peter fell and denied Jesus three times, Peter did not fail. Do you know why?
Because Jesus prayed,
Luke 22:31-32 English Standard Version (ESV)
31 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”
It is because of Jesus’s prayer that kept Peter. Not his confidence. It is your broken heart that leads to salvation.
I know I have a victorious life, not because of me, but because of HIM.
My confidence is this,
Philippians 1:6 English Standard Version (ESV)
6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
That HE began the good work in me and HE will bring it to completion.
Have HIS evidence in you. Be blessed in Jesus mighty Name.
Amen
