What about the neighbor?
What about the neighbor?
Dear children, talking on the faithful servant, he will dress himself to serve, will have the master recline at the table and will wait on Him.
What does this wait on Him, mean?
You get the word ‘waiter’, in restaurant, the person who serves you.
That is the closest equivalent to this, that you might experience.
But a waiter in restaurant serves 3-4 tables at a same time. Sometimes, you have to search for them. Call them and ask for your next dish or drink.
But the verse is talking about a different waiter. I grew up in India.
We used to have servants in our family as I grew up.
A female cook would wait on us as we ate. She prepares meal. 3 course meal. She would stand near the table. As we eat, she stand in the room and will watch the plate as we are eating.
We will talking among ourselves with our family members. But her eyes will be on our plates. The moment, I am finishing something, she will immediately refill that and if my glass of water is getting empty, she will refill it. She will keep refilling as long as we stop.
She will be looking at our plate and what we are eating, so that she can refill again and again.
That is ‘waiting’ in eastern culture. Bible talks about that kind of waiting.
The reason I bring it up, is most in western culture would not have experienced it. So for you understand this verse, you need to understand what is waiting.
Constantly looking at the master, on what he is doing, so to be ready to serve him. That is waiting.
So, if I, we are constantly looking and ready to serve anyday, anytime, does it matter, when the LORD returns. It doesn’t matter to me. I am interested.
Do not get me wrong. Live your life as if Jesus comes today. So everyday wake up and get ready clean the house, prepare the meal, dress to serve. If the Master comes today, you are happy, if He comes tomorrow, you are happy or in a year or in a century, what does it matter to you or me.
Today, I wake up and get ready for my LORD to come. He is ever present with me. So I wait on Him. I am happy to see His face, oh my beautiful Master, my Lord. So I really do not care when He comes, the day of judgement. I truly don’t care.
Verse 38
It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or toward daybreak.
One thing, only one thing you need. Fix your eyes on HIM. HIM alone, remember, the verse Luke 11:34
When your eye is single, the whole body also is full of light.
Have a single vision on your Master, Jesus Christ.
What about the neighbor? What about other fellow servants?
Should I not serve them?
Nope, not your business.
Wait, I know you would be appalled. Wait for it.
Nope do not look at your neighbor or fellow servant. Look at your master and wait for His instruction.
It is not yours to look at others. The Master looks at all servants. HE looks at your neighbor.
Now, Lord Himself instruct you to do, to take care of your neighbor, He will show you and instruct you.
Till that time, wait, do not move. Wait on Him. Only move when HE says so.
You have only one thing to do. To look at HIM, the author and finisher of your salvation.
That’s it.
Don’t look to the left or right. Look at Jesus Christ, my Lord, my savior.
Amen.
