Judging others – Part 1
Boring. I have heard it many times. Nooo… not one more time. I know this already.
“Judge not, the same measure you use, the same will be given unto you”
I know it buddy. I got this.
I hear the mind voice. In fact it is my mind voice, why think on this? This is familiar.
But I had to pull back my mind to ask, “do I really know?”
I tell you this, it is full of surprises.
What is judgement?
A simple enough question?
What is judgement?
Take your time and write the answer. Do not skip it. Think for a moment on this one question.
What is judgement?
— Have you thought about it?
Ok let’s proceed.
I tell you an example. Imagine you are a teacher.
You handed out a multiple choice questionnaire on your subject to the kids.
Every kid ticks the choice that he/she thinks is the right answer.
40 kids give you the answer paper.
Now you start grading them. You go through each question and mark if it is right or wrong.
Now you total the right answer and declare which kids passed or which kids failed.
Shall we call you, a judgemental person?
Because you evaluated and you declared. Is it judgement?
Some may argue, it is…
Do not jump to conclusions. Let’s examine the example further.
How, as a teacher were you able to judge the answers, if they were right or wrong?
Is it based on your bias, you have for the kids?
Being a good teacher you are, I guess not… you are loving.
So what was the criteria for you judge if an answer was right or wrong?
🤔 the answer is obvious, it is the text book you used to teach the kids. If the answer matches the text book, it is right. If not … it is not😔.
That’s all. Here is no judgement. As a teacher you are only assessing the papers and merely declaring the assessment.
Now, does it clear the difference between a assessment and judgement? Are you able make out the difference?
We are not done yet. We only saw what is a assessment is…. But we did not explain the judgement.
True.
Let’s break it down. Before we get into the judgement or you start judging me for writing this 🙂
Let’s jump back to the classroom, teacher.
As a teacher you were only declaring something right or wrong, not based on your opinion or mood but based on the textbook that you have. And the assessment is relatively accurate.
So if I or you as a Christian can assess something based of our text book the Bible and declare that is right and that is wrong. Why it is labeled as judgement?
I have nothing against anyone, just like you the good teacher has nothing against the kids. You merely are declaring true or false based of the Word.
Why then it is labeled as judgement in Christianity?
Now you might have had a quiet a bit of understanding on the assessment.
So now we can go on to judgement.
What is judgement then? How it is different from assessment?
Can I leave you guys to think for a while? Would wait for your answer.
I do not claim to know it all. So would be happy to listen to you think.
Children, think, do not just listen. Think and I am curious and waiting to hear you think.
