Matthew 1:18
Yesterday Indu chithi asked a very interesting question.
A question that is transformative.
She was reading Matthew 1.
Verse 18
18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
“she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.”
How could this be,? How can you explain this to a non-beliver?
Very powerful question.
How can she be pregnant through Holy Spirit?
Let’s turn to John 1:14
John 1:14 New International Version (NIV)
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
You see that the Word became flesh.
Keep that in your mind. We are going to connect lot of verses.
What word?
Isaiah 7:14
Isaiah 7:14 New International Version (NIV)
14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
So the Word of God, promise of God spoken through the prophet Isaiah.
So the Word of God that was spoken became flesh.
How can this be?
Genesis 1
Genesis 1:3 New International Version (NIV)
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
How did Gid create light?
He spoke and there was light.
So how? By His Word He created everything.
Now wait a minute. What did I just say? That everything that is created was created through the Word of God. HE spoke and there it was.
Hold on, Did we not read, in Colossians?
Colossians 1:16 New International Version (NIV)
16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
Did we not read, in Colossians that all things were created through Jesus?
Yes, good for remembering that.
Everything was created through Jesus= Everything was created through the Word.
True.
Jesus = The Word of God.
The Word became flesh.
John 1:1-3 New International Version (NIV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
Ok, ok, the Word created, the Word became flesh in Mary’s womb.
Wait a minute, Matthew 1:18 doesn’t say Word, but rather says through Holy Spirit.
Watch closely.
“she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.”
Holy Spirit. Did you read it?
Very good. Remember
Jesus = The Word. Let’s turn to John
John 6:63 English Standard Version (ESV)
63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
The Words Jesus spoke are spirit.
Word = Spirit.
So,
JESUS = The Word = Spirit
You see in Genesis 1:1 the Spirit is with God.
You see the triune nature of God.
The spoken Word of God is life, created everything that you see. The promise spoken by God through Isaiah came to pass.
And the same God spoke about you. Called you out and given you promise. Will you be pregnant in your heart. You carry His promise. Will you speak like Mary and answer back,
Luke 1:38
And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”
Behold Lord, here I am your servant of yours, let it be to me according to your Word.
And what does the Word say?
We are the sons and daughters, co-heirs with my elder brother Jesus Christ. The promises of God, is yes and Amen.
Now, just a preload on faith. The Word didn’t force Mary. Mary accepted the Word by faith.
It is by faith we receive the promises of God.
The interesting question made us understand a lot on the Word.
Be blessed my children.
(Side note: The Word is the seed. Read Luke 8:11)
