Word Faith
Deepak, this is for you.
This is most important parable to understand all parable.
Mark 4:13 King James Version (KJV)
13 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?
I want you see the Matthew, Mark and Luke side by side.
As Jesus talks about the good ground that produced thirty, sixty and hundredfold fruit. Watch the words.
Matthew
that heareth the word and understand it;
Underline ‘understand’
Now Mark,
hear the word, and receive it,
Underline ‘receive’
Luke
heard the word, keep it
Underline ‘keep’
Now we have 3 words.
understand,
receive,
keep
These words are used interchangeably in the gospels.
Here is an other lesson. Some people argue, why does Matthew, Mark and Luke say different things? That is the beauty, when you read them together. You get the rich detail of the Word.
Let us read the 3 words in Greek.
Understand
G4920
Original: συνίημι
Transliteration: suniēmi
Phonetic: soon-ee’-ay-mee
Strong’s Definition: From G4862 and ἵημι hiēmi (to send); to put together, that is, (mentally) to comprehend ; be wise.
Thayer’s definition:the perception with the thing perceived
to set or join together in the mind
I like it. To understand, is to join together. Any truth in Bible doesn’t stand alone. It stands on other verses. You need to put together, connect in you mind, perceive to understand.
We are going to connect Scriptures. Read further.
Now, the Word receive in Greek.
This is going to put a new wrinkle in your brain.
Receive.
G3858
Original: παραδέχομαι
Transliteration: paradechomai
Phonetic: par-ad-ekh’-om-ahee
Thayer Definition:
to receive, take up, take upon one’s self
to admit, i.e. not to reject, to accept, receive
The word par-ad-ekh’-om-ahee is a compound word of
dekh’-om-ahee meaning
to take with the hand
to take hold of, take up
You might be wondering, why am I going deep into the root of the word.
It is important. Pay attention. When you hear the word ‘receive’ what is the image you see in your mind.
A open hand receiving. A beggar receiving a coin. Open hands looking for mercy, begging. Receiving a gift.
But the greek word doesn’t mean that. It says take hold of oneself.
This is not open hand, this is close hand grabbing the priced posession. The mental image is different. Take hold of. Is a powerful position. One is passive, one is aggressive, assertive.
Receive = take hold of.
Remember that, we are going to read further on this.
Now on to the 3rd word
‘keep’
G2722
Original: κατέχω
Transliteration: katechō
Phonetic: kat-ekh’-o
Thayer Definition:
to hold back, detain, retain
from going away
To hold back.
This is mind blowing. You hear the word. Connect, put together, understand and you (receive) take hold of the word aggressively. Now that you take hold of the word, you hold it firm from going away.
This is a picture of faith.
Hebrews 4:2 King James Version (KJV)
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
See that, you can hear the word and if do not mix it with faith, it profits you nothing.
Here is the picture of faith. Grabbing the word and not letting go.
Want to see how this faith looks in metaphor. Let’s watch something funny and we learn from it.
Did you see that, the bulldog grabbed the bone, that is receiving the word. And it did not let go. That is keep the word.
You grab the promise and keep it. Do you want to see spiritual warfare. Putting up a good fight of faith.
1 Timothy 6:12 English Standard Version (ESV)
12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Grab the word and don’t let go of it. No matter. Stand the ground. That is the good fight of faith.
Give everything for that one promise, that Word of God spoken over your life.
That is the good fight of faith. The bulldog is ready to give everything up for that bone, toy.
That is standing the ground. Here is the Scripture.
Matthew 13:44 English Standard Version (ESV)
The Parable of the Hidden Treasure
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
See, faith demands that. It is passive. Be aggressive to take hold of that is given to you. And hold it. Grab it.
That is the good fight of faith.
Take the Word, bite it, understand, put together, take hold of and keep it.
Be blessed in Jesus mighty Name. Receive, take you promised blessing.
