Who are you? Part 4

Part 4.
What have we covered so far?

Identity is important. You knowing ‘who you are’ is important.

Devil came against the identity of Jesus.
And in John 13, we saw Jesus knowing What He had, where He came from, and where He was going.

And we said the first step is to knowing ‘Where you came from?’

We came from God. Then ‘Who is God?’ ‘What is HIS nature?’

Even a lifetime is not enough to know God. You will spend eternity knowing Him. I hope you have made the right choice.

John 4:24 English Standard Version (ESV)

24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

God is Spirit.

Keep that in mind.

1 John 4:8 English Standard Version (ESV)

8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

God is love.

The verse is so familiar, that we lose the sense of it.

Let me ask you ‘What is love?’

I love my dog. I love my wife. I love rice, biryani. I love sunshine and I love my God.
From the above statement.
Dog, wife, rice, and God are all the same?

That is the limitation of the English language. We can go to greek, let me put a disclaimer, even Greek nor any earthly language is not adequate to explain God’s love. Yet Greek has a better grasp.

There are 4 words in Greek that are translated to love in English.

  • Storge – empathy bond.
  • Philia – friend bond.
  • Eros – romantic love.
  • Agape – unconditional “God” love.

What is the word that is used in this verse?

‘Agape’

The right question is ‘What is agape?’

Turn with me to 1 Corinthians 13

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 English Standard Version (ESV)

4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[a] 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

That is the nature of God. Meditate on it. We shall each verse in the coming days and meditate on them.

Be blessed, my friends…
Amen
