‘תּוה’ Psalm 78:41 What does this Hebrew word mean?
Have you read Psalms 78.
Psalm 78:41 King James Version (KJV)
41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
Limited the Holy One of Isreal.
How can man limit GOD?
It sounds so impossible? I understand.
Let us verify, if this something in translation or if this is the case in the Hebrew word.
What is the Hebrew word used that is translated as limited?
Original: תּוה
Transliteration: tâvâh
Phonetic: taw-vaw’
Strong’s Definition: A primitive root (or perhaps identical with H8427 through a similar idea from scraping to pieces); to grieve. (By confusion with H8427): – limit [by confusion with H8427]
The root word points to limit.
Hmmm… so can this be, that people of Isreal limited GOD?
You remember, I told you guys, every truth in Bible will not stand alone. Bible will comment or explain itself in different place.
Let’s check it out. Come to the New testament. GOD manifest in flesh. Jesus Christ.Turn with me
Matthew 13:58 English Standard Version (ESV)
58 And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.
Now understand the context. Same in recorded in Mark 6:5.
Turn with me to Mark 6
Mark 6:5 English Standard Version (ESV)
5 And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them.
What does it say?
Jesus could not.
What? How can this be? How can Jesus could not? Nothing is impossible for Him? How can bible say Jesus could not?
Watch closely, it doesn’t say He would not, but the Bible says He couldn’t.
Do you understand the difference?
Can you connect with Psalm 78:41?
There is one thing that stop GOD from working in your life. What is it?
It is ‘unbelief’. GOD doesn’t control your freewill. If HE did, then it can not be free will.
Now let’s take it further and think.
What is the opposite of ‘unbelief’?
Faith.
If unbelief can limit, then the opposite is faith should enable, demand GOD’s will even without HIS knowledge. Is it that right?
It will make sense. Stick with me.
Now turn to Mathew and we will read about the women with blood issue.
Mark 5:30 English Standard Version (ESV)
30 And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?”
The faith of the woman put a demand on the will of GOD and she was healed and Jesus preceived that the power had gone out of Him is asking who touched Him with faith?
Do you see, even before Jesus realized the power was released by faith of the woman.
Watch closely how Jesus is answering the woman.
Verse 34
34 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”
Oh oh, did you see that. You should be jumping by now.
What did Jesus say…?
“Daughter, your faith has made you well;
Your faith has made you well.
Do you understand? She did not beg or pray or tervail or fast…
She used her faith to demand, to receive.
Without faith you can not please GOD.
Do you understand? If you do, you will have plenty of questions. That is good. That is a sign that you understood. Ask your questions. It is important.
LORD will answer you. You have the HOLY SPIRIT to guide you. Ask for wisdom.
Here is a quiz for you, find this verse, where in Bible does it say “And without faith it is impossible to please him” ?
